Cameron Diaz’ dad, Emilio, has died due to pneumonia which complicated from flu. He was 58.

In a statement issued by Cameron in behalf of her family, the star speaks out, "My mom, sister and I are deeply appreciative of the overwhelming outpouring of love and support during this difficult time for us and all of our family. My dad was loved by so many people and his humor and spirit will always live on in our hearts."

A second generation Cuban-American, Emilio worked as an oil company foreman. Although he often shied away from her famous daughter’s spotlight, he had a quick cameo as a jailbird in 1998 comedy, There’s Something About Mary.

While some outlets have reported that production on Cameron’s latest movie My Sister’s Keeper shut down due to the actress’ grief, a rep from New Line Cinema confirmed that shooting goes on. Cameron has been absent from the set for the past few days since scenes that didn’t involve her were being filmed.
