Seinfeld Laughs Over Car Wreck

He was actually laughing. You thought he was delivering a punchline.

That was how comic Jerry Seinfeld punctuated his story about the frightening car wreck he got involved with last weekend in Hamptons. He was motoring along Skimhampton Road in East Hampton at around 7:40 p.m. Saturday when the brakes of his vintage Fiat failed suddenly, causing his two-door sedan to flip over.

The 53-year-old comedian was headed straight to a busy Montauk Highway when he lost control of the brakes. According to the police report, when his brakes failed, he pulled his emergency brake and cut the wheel to steer clear of the traffic. Before coming to a stop at an intersection with other vehicles several feet away, his car rolled over onto its passenger side, and then the roof. Authorities on the scene attributed the crash to mechanical failure.

Seinfeld merely laughed off this terrifying episode and said that he wants to make sure all kids know that "driving without braking" isn’t something he recommends, unless they have "professional clown training or a comedy background," like he says he does. He added that it's not something that he plans to make a habit of.

The incident may probably have scared the ghost out of him, but at least his sense of humor is still in one piece.
