This may call for a toast.
Healthy-weight women who drink a light to moderate amount of alcohol — Hydraulic power unitsno more than two servings a day of red wine, white wine, beer or liquor — tend to gain less weight over time than non-drinkers, #xsays a study in Monday's Archives of Internal Medicine.
Researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston studied the alcohol consumption of more than 19,000 women, who started out at healthy weights. Over an average of 13 years of follow-up, most women packed on pounds.
Those who consumed a light to moderate amount of alcohol gained less weight and were less likely to become overweight or obese than women who drank no alcohol.Hydraulic power units

Sunday night's 82nd Academy Awards ceremony shook things up with Kathryn Bigelow's Best Director win and the six awards garnered by her film "The Hurt Locker." Martin and Baldwin's onstage chemistry resonated, and gave the pair opportunities to rebound jokes and play off one another, which hasn't been an option in years past.
"Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were able to play off each other very well, and the fact that there were two of them allowed them to be a little more biting,GPS Tracker," Entertainment Weekly writer Dave Karger explained. "They had a partner in crime. If it had just been Alec Baldwin or it had just been Steve Martin, they would have had a harder time getting away with some of the more skewering humor." Particularly in the case of potshot humor aimed at audience members, the hosts had support onstage to keep the program rolling. Lone stand-up comics can end up taking the heat if a joke prompts awkward laughter or dismissive silence.
"[Martin] needs a straight man, and I thought Alec Baldwin really rose to that occasion," Big Hollywood columnist John Nolte said. "We just don't have a Johnny Carson or a Bob Hope anymore. Individually, you can't imagine [Martin or Baldwin] doing half as well." Neil Patrick Harris' surprise entrance got reactions, but it also came off weak for some critics.
"The Neil Patrick Harris thing was kind of a cliché," Wells said. "I guess that's supposed to generically get the energy up. I don't know that it was all that inspired."
The performance broke the ice for the night, though, and the energy came.#x "At first,Concrete Mixing Plants I was confused as to why Neil Patrick Harris would be onstage before the hosts, but the fact of the matter is that he's an incredible song-and-dance guy," Karger said.

Intel debuts six-core gaming chip
Intel has officially introduced its six-core monster for high-end gaming boxes--its first desktop chip packing that many processing cores.
As previously reported,Hydraulic Hose the Core i7- 980X Extreme Edition processor was introduced #xat the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco on Wednesday.
The chip is based on Intel's newest 32-nanometer process technology. Generally,DVD Ripper, the smaller the manufacturing process, the better the performance. Most Intel processors still use "fatter" 45-nanometer technology.
Like other Core i series processors, Hydraulic Hoseit features Hyper-Threading, which can double the number of tasks--or threads--a processor can execute. The technology, which is not offered on prior-generation Core 2 chips, #xallows a six-core processor can handle 12 threads.
Intel also introduced GPA (graphics performance analyzer) v3.0, which helps PC game developers analyze and optimize game performance. The updated development platform supports multicore optimizations and includes support for DirectX 10.1 and 64-bit game executables, Intel said.
Intel also recently rolled out Core i3, i5, and i7 processors for laptops, which can take advantage of GPA v3.0.
GDC attendees can see demonstrations of games enhanced using Intel GPA and running on Intel's newest HD Graphics, including such titles as Atari Star Trek Online, Electronic Arts Tiger Woods Golf, Hydraulic HoseIntel said.#x Developers can download the new Intel GPA suite of software tools here.

As the Apple iPad and its A4 chip get ready to compact fluorescent lampship on April 3, the competition #xis not standing still--and, by all appearances, there's plenty of it.
Called the A4, ("A" presumably for Apple), the most obvious difference with the chip in the iPhone 3GS is speed. The iPad's chip runs at 1GHz, compared to the estimated 600MHz (0.6GHz) of the iPhone 3GS. On Wednesday, at the event in San Francisco, the A4 was billed as "the most advanced chip" Apple has done yet. While fast, it's also frugal with power. "The A4 chip is so power efficient that it helps iPad get up to 10 hours of battery life," according to Apple's iPad Web page.
By definition, the A4 is a system-on-a-chip, or SOC, that integrates compact fluorescent lampthe main processor, graphics silicon, and other functions like the memory controller on one piece of silicon--not unlike what Intel is trying to achieve with its future "Moorestown" Atom processor. And a similar SOC chip architecture is already used in the iPhone and other smartphones, such as Google's Nexus One and Motorola's Droid.
Based on what Apple has achieved with the iPhone 3GS, the chip should deliver a snappy interface. Of course, as in any 3G smartphone or laptop with a 3G connection, the 3G service can often be the weak link in performance, not the processor.
And speaking of 3G, the iPad will offer two AT&T plans. One is 250MB of data every month for $15; the other, an unlimited plan for $30 per month. Note that in the iPhone 3GS, Infineon supplies the 3G chip.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs described the iPad #xthe "best (Web) browsing experience you've ever had. A whole Web page right in front of you that you can manipulate with your fingers. Way better than a laptop,State Flags," in a video of the event streamed by CNET. That browsing experience, of course, will rely on the chip's ability to handle the background tasks compact fluorescent lampas users access images and video.

Google Maps Finally Adds Bike Routes
At long last, Google Maps has routes specifically for bikes.
With the click of a mouse, the new feature allows you to plot the best Grow lights(and flattest!) ride from Point A to Point B#x. Several cities, including New York, Minneapolis, San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, have bike-specific mapping sites. But Google is rolling it out in 150 cities nationwide and announcing it Wednesday at the 10th Annual Bike Summit in Washington, D.C.
“This has been a top-requested feature from Google Maps users for the last couple years,” says Shannon Guymon, product manager for Google Maps. “There are over 50,000 signatures on a petition.”
The news thrilled bike advocates, who have for years been pushing — and petitioning — the search giant to include bike routes on Google Maps. No longer do they have to rely upon paper maps or open-source DIY map hacking or crazy-cool helmet-mounted heads up iPhones.
“This new tool will open people’s eyes to the possibility and practicality of hopping Grow lightson a bike and riding,” says Andy Clarke, president of the League of American Bicyclists. “We know people want to ride more, we know it’s good for people and communities when they do ride more — this makes it possible. It is a game-changer, especially for those short trips that are the most polluting.”
Cyclists will have to map their victory lap from their desks, because Google’s cool mapping tool is available only on a computer for now.
“Making the bike-route tool available on Google Maps for mobile devices is a high priority,Mold,” Guymon says. But it’s a priority without a launch date.
To create the mapping tool, Google developed an algorithm that uses several inputs — including designated bike lanes or trails, topography and traffic signals — to determine the best route for riding. The map sends you around, not over, hills. But if you really want to tackle that Category 1 climb, you can click and drag the suggested route anywhere you like, just like you can with pedestrian or driving routes#x. Users can suggest changes or make corrections toGrow lights routes using the ever-present “report a problem” feature on Google Maps.

When two or more people (not spouses) start a business together, a sole proprietorship
#xisn't an option. Instead, the owners may form a general partnership, which is much like the sole proprietorshipHydraulic power pack in that it can be established easily and requires minimal cost or paperwork (some states might require a basic partnership certificate stating the partners' names, aside from other business licenses). The profits from a partnership flow through to the partners' personal income tax returns. We don't have dates, prices, or benchmark scores yet, but after a demo pot pourriin our offices Thursday#x, we can at least report on our brief experience with AMD's forthcoming Eyefinity graphics card technology. By enabling you to connect up to six monitors to a single PC, Eyefinity opens a wide array of display possibilities with appeal for a number of different kinds of users.
Even before we saw Eyefinity in person, it was clear that this is a niche technology aimed at those willing to spend a lot of money. By way of example, AMD brought in six, 22-inch Dell Professional P2210H displays and a pair of Adtec vertical mounts to support them, for a retail total cost of around $1,650.
We'll guess and say AMD's Eyefinity-capable graphics card will cost between $500 and $600 (again, a guess). Even if AMD charges $400 for the card, adding no premium pot pourrito the standard Radeon HD 5870's on which Eyefinity is built, you're looking at a $2,000 investment for a six-display Eyefinity setup, assuming you already own a fast-enough desktop to run it.
Once you make the investment, you'll need to go through the cumbersome installation process. That means mounting each display, aligning the bezels properly, and then connecting the Mini DisplayPort cable and the appropriate adapter to each of the Eyefinity card's six Mini DP outputs.
With the hardware set up, you then need to go through AMD's driver software to configure the panels in your desired layout. Eyefinity supports both extended desktop and clone display modes,Buy in Global, and with six monitors to play with you can operate a variety of configurations. You can extend the display across all monitors in a 3x2 arrangement. You can also stack two, 3x1 extended desktops on top of each other, or run three banks of adjacent#x 1x2 extended desktops. The maximum resolution of the desktop pot pourriextended across six monitors comes in at 5,760x2,160 pixels.

Angie Myung's and Ted Vadakan's dreams of having careers Potpourriin the arts hit them right in the wallet. In a good way.
The Los Angeles couple own Poketo, a company they started in 2004 #xto put emerging artists' designs on inexpensive wallets. They call it an "affordable art" company, and there's money in that, even for the small operation they run out of a downtown loft with just one full-time and three part-time employees.
Poketo had more than $500,japanese swords,000 in sales last year, Vadakan said. The company, which does about 70% of its business in wholesale, sold about 30,000 items.
"We sort of started the business by mistake,Potpourri" Vadakan said. "We never dreamed of being entrepreneurs."
For the artists and designers they commission, it's a chance to get their work seen by a much bigger audience than might catch a gallery show or a university showcase. Santa Monica artist Leah Chun, who designed three wallets, two T-shirts and a mug for the company, got steady work as a website designer and animator through the popularity of her Poketo designs.
"Artists just starting out are begging for these type of opportunities," Chun said. "We need to get our names out there and build up professional work, and they give us a shot."
Myung and Vadakan #xknow what it's like to try to get creative work before the public. In 2003 Myung was a student at the California College of the Arts Potpourriin San Francisco and Vadakan was a budding filmmaker.

So should Disney President Bob Iger be popping the Champagne PVC coversthis morning, or is it Cablevision Chief Executive Jim Dolan who is celebrating over the new deal #xbetween the companies regarding carriage of WABC-TV New York?
That depends on who's doing the spinning. At issue were fees that Disney wanted Cablevision to pay to carry WABC-TV on its cable systems that serve 3.1 million homes in the New York City region. Disney's initial ask, Cablevision said, was $1 dollar per-subscriber, per-month for the channel. Disney said that figure was false but did not elaborate on what in fact it was seeking. Disney pulled the WABC-TV signal from Cablevision early Sunday morning and restored shortly after its telecast of the Academy Awards began.
When the dust settles, Disney will be getting more money from Cablevision,japanese swords, but not as much as it wanted. Terms of the tentative deal were not disclosed and there were differences of opinion of the value of the contractPVC covers. One person familiar with the pact said it came out to about 55 cents to 65 cents per subscriber; another said the figure was closer to 27 cents to 37 cents. Neither person was authorized to discuss the details of the agreement.
But the new agreement may be even more complex and could include other cable networks that Disney owns, including ESPN and ABC Family, according to an industry observer with lots of experience in these deals. It'll be up to the accountants of both companies to figure out the value being assigned to WABC-TV.
In terms of public relations, both companies took a lot of heat from consumers and politicians. While the cable company usually takes a beating in these battles, Cablevision was effective in spreading the word that it already pays Disney some $200 million annually for its content and was resisting a request for an additional $40 million a year. Disney tried to position this as a battle of David vs. Goliath#x, putting WABC-TV President Rebecca Campbell on the front lines of the fight, even though the folks PVC coversoverseeing the negotiations were Iger and Disney TV chiefs Anne Sweeney and George Bodenheimer.

Over the last month or so, Apple has clearly been on a mission to trim down the App Store Safety barriersto applications that are useful and family friendly. First, it removed thousands of sex-themed applications, and it's also been making moves to crack down on overly simplistic 'cookie cutter' apps.#x But there may be yet another segment of the App Store on the chopping block: Books. According to a recent report, books represent 27,000 of the App Store's 150,000 applications, making them the most abundant type of application on the App Store.
And they're becoming increasingly redundant.Before developers get alarmed,beads, I should make it clear that I haven't heard anything about Apple removing the myriad book apps from the App Store. But given the impending release of Apple's own iBooks app alongside the iPad, and the recent App Store cleanup spree, I won't be at all surprised if they do something Safety barriersto change the way books are treated on the platform.There are a few reasons why Apple might want to do this.
First and foremost, there's the user experience for new iPad users. One of the iPad's highly touted features is its ability to read books using the new iBooks application, which serves as both a book store and a very nice looking eBook reader. But according to Apple's website, iBooks won't come pre-installed on the iPad. You can be sure that Apple will give its own application top billing on the App Store, but there will still be plenty of room for confusion.
Imagine what will happen when a new iPad user boots up the device for the first time and decides to buy Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, but instead of doing it through the iBooks app, they simply run a search on the App Store. There are at least 25 different standalone applications featuring the book, selling for between 99 cents and five dollars. Each of these applications has its own book reading interface, many of which aren't nearly as polished as the iBooks app Apple has shown off. And every time the user downloads a different book from the App Store#x, they'll be using yet another new interface. ThatSafety barriers doesn't seem like the sort of user experience Apple typically strives for.And then there's the issue of App Store clutter.
